Energy Ministers of India and Bangladesh to Visit Nepal for Trilateral Electricity Trade Agreement

India’s Federal Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Bangladesh’s Energy Minister Nasrul Hamid are set to visit Nepal on July 28 to finalize a trilateral electricity trade agreement between the three countries.

Minister Khattar and Minister Hamid will participate in the signing of the tripartite electricity trade agreement involving Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. This significant move aims to enhance energy cooperation and economic ties between the neighboring countries.

According to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation of Nepal, the agreement will be signed between the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), and India’s NTPC Electricity Trading Corporation (NVVN). This historic agreement will mark the first time Nepal sells electricity in dollars, a major milestone for the country’s energy sector.

In the presence of the energy ministers, a 40-megawatt power sale agreement (PSA) will be signed in Kathmandu. Following the signing, joint secretary and secretary-level meetings are scheduled to take place in Pokhara on July 29 and 30 to discuss further details and implementation plans.

The trilateral agreement is expected to bolster regional cooperation in energy trade, improve energy security, and provide economic benefits to all three countries involved.
