EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen to Visit India on February 27-28

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is set to visit India on February 27-28, accompanied by the College of Commissioners, marking a significant step in strengthening EU-India relations.

Announcing the visit, the EU delegation in India shared on X, “@EU_Commission President @vonderleyen to visit New Delhi on Feb 27-28 with the College of Commissioners! This unprecedented visit highlights the growing momentum in EU-India ties.”

The visit follows von der Leyen’s earlier announcement of a new strategic agenda for EU-India relations, set to be presented at this year’s EU-India Summit. The Delegation of the European Union to India and Bhutan emphasized that the trip will focus on enhancing cooperation in key areas critical to economic and security interests.

“In this era of intense geostrategic competition, Europe stands for openness, partnership, and outreach. We seek to deepen ties with one of our most trusted friends and allies—India. Europe and India are like-minded partners, bound by the shared conviction that democracy best serves the people,” von der Leyen stated.

She further highlighted the EU’s commitment to strengthening trade, economic security, resilient supply chains, technology collaboration, and defense cooperation with India.

During her visit, von der Leyen and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will co-chair a plenary session between the College of Commissioners and the Indian government. They will also hold a bilateral meeting followed by a joint press interaction. Additionally, members of the College will meet their respective Indian counterparts for discussions on various collaborative efforts.

A key highlight of the visit will be the second Trade and Technology Council (TTC) meeting, with the EU delegation led by Vice-President Virkkunen, High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas, and Commissioners Maros Sefcovic and Ekaterina Zaharieva. The TTC aims to enhance collaboration in digital infrastructure, green technologies, and trade. Discussions will focus on digital public infrastructure compatibility, value chain resilience, and global trade cooperation.

EU Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin, underscored the visit’s significance, calling it a “momentous occasion” that reflects the mutual commitment of both India and the EU to elevate their strategic partnership.
