Fake Bhutanese Refugee Scandal: MPs Engages in Accusation-Counter-Accusation
During a recent meeting of the federal parliament session on Sunday, the parliamentarians of UML, Congress, and Maoists engaged in heated exchanges over allegations of sending Nepali people as fake Bhutanese refugees to America. The members of all three parties demanded an investigation into the matter of corruption.
UML’s chief whip Padam Giri, along with UML’s Raghuji Panta, Mahesh Kumar Bartaula, and Surya Thapa, emphasized the importance of investigating all corruption cases in the country.
Similarly, Maoist’s Madhav Sapkota challenged UML to bring corruption charges against its leader under the law, while also cautioning UML against making fun of the Prime Minister regarding the corruption investigation.
Members of Nepali Congress, Unified Socialist, and NWPP, such as Ramhari Khatiwada, Metmani Chaudhary, and Prem Suwal, also expressed the need for a thorough investigation into all cases of corruption. However, some MPs of one party pointed fingers at the leaders of another party and demanded an investigation.
Arju Rana Deuba of Congress suggested that the property and resources of all ministers and MPs be made public, while Hari Dhakal of RSP proposed that a commission be formed to investigate all 3300 corruption scandals that have occurred over the past 33 years.
