Federal Ministers Assess Flood Damage in Sindhuli, Plans for Reconstruction Underway
Three federal government ministers arrived in Sindhuli today to assess the flood damage in the region. The team, consisting of Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal, and Defence Minister Manbir Rai, visited Khurkot this morning to inspect the devastation caused by the swollen Sunkoshi River.
The ministers visited the site of the Khurkot bridge, a crucial 51-metre-long Bailey bridge connecting Sindhuli and Ramechhap, which was swept away by the flood. The Nepali Army has already started preliminary work to restore the bridge and open it for traffic.
Following the inspection, the ministers engaged in discussions with local representatives, Chief District Officer Lila Prasad Sharma, Superintendent of Police Govinda Raj Kafley, and locals to evaluate the extent of the damage caused by flooding and landslides. The talks focused on the urgent reconstruction of road infrastructure and ongoing rescue and relief operations.
The ministers are scheduled to visit Chautara in Sindhupalchowk later today as part of their broader efforts to coordinate government support for flood-affected areas.
