Federal Parliament’s Budget Session Set to Begin Friday

The monsoon session of Nepal’s Federal Parliament, commonly referred to as the budget session, is scheduled to commence this Friday, April 26. President Ramchandra Paudel has called the session for 1:00 PM, following the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
As stipulated in Article 93 of the Constitution, the President must convene a session of the Parliament within one month of the general elections. Subsequent sessions are to be summoned as required, with no more than six months permitted between two consecutive sittings.
The previous (winter) session of the Parliament was prorogued on March 31.
This upcoming session will be pivotal in shaping the government’s financial and legislative agenda for the next fiscal year. The Finance Minister is set to present the national budget on May 29, 2025, in accordance with the constitutional calendar. Ahead of the budget presentation, the government will unveil its policies and programmes on May 2, while pre-budget discussions are expected to begin from May 11, as mandated to occur at least 15 days prior to the budget announcement.
Key legislative priorities for the session are expected to include deliberations on the Federal Civil Service Bill and the long-awaited School Education Bill.
Speaking to the media, Federal Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Eakram Giri confirmed that all managerial and technical preparations for the session have been completed, ensuring smooth proceedings throughout the summer sitting.
