Filmmaker Sudarshan Thapa Arrested Amid ‘Prasad 2’ Controversy

Renowned Nepali film director and artist Sudarshan Thapa was arrested in Kathmandu on Monday, stirring a whirlwind of speculation and intrigue within the entertainment industry.

Thapa’s arrest comes in connection with the simmering controversy surrounding the film ‘Prasad 2’, a sequel to the critically acclaimed ‘Prasad’, which has been embroiled in legal disputes and allegations of fraudulent activities.

According to authorities, producers Sudarshan Basnet and Jack Shrestha formally accused Thapa of fraud and criminal treachery, filing a complaint at the District Police Range in Kathmandu. The complaint, lodged on July 26 of the previous year, alleges a staggering sum of Rs 15 million was unlawfully obtained through unauthorized screenings of the film, both domestically and internationally.

The arrest has sent shockwaves through Nepal’s entertainment community, with many expressing disbelief and concern over the unfolding saga. Thapa, known for his contributions to Nepali cinema and art, has yet to issue a statement regarding the allegations.
