Flights between Pokhara and Jomsom, a popular tourist destination in Mustang, have resumed today after a two-month suspension due to adverse weather conditions. The air service, which connects Pokhara, the capital of Gandaki Province, and Jomsom, had been halted since July 1.
Keshav Lamsal, the chief of Jomsom Airport, confirmed that Summit Airlines operated five flights on the route today. “The weather has now improved,” Lamsal stated, noting that the resumption of flights coincides with the start of the tourist season. He also mentioned that Tara Air, a subsidiary of Yeti Airlines, is scheduled to begin flights on the route starting September 3.
A total of 90 passengers landed in Mustang today across the five flights. The resumption of air service has provided much-needed relief to travelers, especially pilgrims, as landslides have disrupted the Benighat-Jomsom road section in Magdi.
Prior to the resumption of flights, the lack of both road and air access to Mustang had forced people to rely on helicopter services, significantly increasing travel costs. The return of regular flights is expected to ease travel and boost tourism in the region.
