Floods and Landslides Displace 50 Families in Baglung’s Badigad
Torrential floods and landslides have displaced 50 families in Badigad Rural Municipality of Baglung district. The affected areas include Nayabasti, Arupta, Patle, Clabjhing, Khor, and Salle in wards 9 and 10 of the municipality.
Tragically, the disaster has claimed the lives of at least 11 people, with one person still unaccounted for. The displaced families are currently facing dire conditions, with no access to drinking water or electricity. Children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable in these circumstances.
Local resident Bhim Bahadur Budha expressed concern over the ongoing risk of landslides, noting that several houses in the village remain in danger. “The settlements around my house are in a vulnerable condition,” he said, highlighting the precarious situation faced by many in the community.
Bhimsen Ban, Vice-Chair of Badigad Rural Municipality, stated that the displaced families are being temporarily housed in schools and public places. The rural municipality is distributing relief supplies, including food, tarpaulin sheets, lamps, and other essential items, in the initial phase of the response.
Ban also mentioned that discussions are ongoing with higher-level governments to secure long-term support and management for the affected families. The local administration is working diligently to provide immediate relief while planning for sustained recovery efforts.
