Floods and Landslides Wreak Havoc in Makwanpur and Other Districts
Heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in Sisneri Bazaar, Makwanpur, sweeping away 30 houses, including a police building. In nearby Khanikhet, 28 houses are inundated. Two sluice gates of the Kulekhani reservoir have been opened to manage the rising water level, which has put various streams at risk of flooding.
Landslides have disrupted multiple major highways, including Hetauda-Kathmandu and Prithviraj highways. Efforts are underway to clear debris and restore transportation, while residents in high-risk areas have been relocated to safer zones.
Additionally, in Panchthar, a flood swept away a bailey bridge on the Mechi Highway, cutting off road access to several rural municipalities and Taplejung district.
Authorities are on high alert for further monsoon-related disasters.
