Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba Urges South Asian Academics to Address Climate Change During India Visit
Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, who is currently on an official visit to India, has called on academicians from South Asia to collectively address the pressing issue of climate change. Her remarks came during a meeting with South Asian University (SAU) President, Professor KK Aggarwal, in New Delhi today.
“The South Asia region shares numerous challenges, including climate change. It is crucial for researchers and academicians at the University to identify these issues and propose solutions,” Minister Deuba emphasized during the meeting.
Professor Aggarwal briefed the Minister on the University’s ongoing affairs and proposed the establishment of a constituent college of the University in Nepal. He highlighted that the University, established by the eight member nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), operates as an international institution, with the foreign ministers of SAARC countries serving as its ex-officio chancellors.
As part of her visit, Minister Deuba also held a courtesy meeting with India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and engaged in bilateral discussions with her Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar. Additionally, she met with Dr. Vijay Chauthaiwale, Chief of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Minister Deuba is scheduled to return to Nepal later today.
