
Foreign Minister Rana Assures Continuous Follow-Up on KIIT Student Lamsal’s Death


Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba has stated that the government is actively monitoring the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University in Odisha, India, and the subsequent developments.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Minister Rana confirmed that necessary steps are being taken to assess the situation of Nepali students residing in the university’s hostels and to ensure their safety.
“Two senior officials from Nepal Police, stationed at the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi, have reached the university this morning. I spoke with them over the phone and directed them to coordinate with Indian security personnel for a thorough investigation into the incident. Additionally, they have been instructed to work with the university administration to facilitate necessary support for Nepali students and ensure their safe accommodation,” she said.
Minister Rana also highlighted that diplomatic efforts were initiated immediately after the incident came to light. As a result, the university has issued an appeal for students to return to their hostels and has taken disciplinary action against staff involved in the mistreatment of Nepali students.
She reaffirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepalese Embassy in New Delhi are closely coordinating with the university administration and Indian security authorities to ensure justice and a safe environment for Nepali students at KIIT University.
