Foreign Minister Rana Intensifies Diplomatic Efforts for Bipin Joshi’s Release
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, held a telephonic discussion with her Israeli counterpart, Gideon Sa’ar, on Tuesday evening, urging intensified efforts for the safe release of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali citizen reportedly held captive by Hamas.
Minister Rana’s appeal comes amid reports of Hamas releasing 34 captives, including women, children, and the elderly. During the call, she emphasized the importance of diplomatic initiatives to secure Joshi’s freedom. She acknowledged Israel’s advocacy for the release of all captives and expressed appreciation for its efforts.
In response, Israeli Minister Sa’ar assured Dr. Rana that the Israeli government is making every effort to secure Joshi’s release. He also praised Dr. Rana’s previous discussions with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, for their role in mediating peace talks with Hamas.
Earlier the same day, Dr. Rana had a telephonic conversation with Dr. Khulaifi, seeking similar support. Dr. Khulaifi reiterated Qatar’s commitment to prioritizing Joshi’s release and highlighted Qatar’s ongoing initiatives for the release of captives.
Dr. Rana has been actively engaging with diplomatic representatives from Israel, Egypt, and Qatar to amplify efforts for Joshi’s freedom. Joshi was abducted during the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, which claimed over 1,000 lives, including 10 Nepalis.
The Government of Nepal, under Dr. Rana’s leadership, has consistently advocated for Joshi’s release at various platforms, including the United Nations and through bilateral engagements, reinforcing Nepal’s commitment to his safe return.
