Foreign Minister Saud Gathers Former Dignitaries for Talks Prior to Indian EAM Visit

In a strategic move before the upcoming official visit of India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Prakash Saud, convened a crucial meeting with former foreign ministers, secretaries, and ambassadors to India.

During the gathering, held on the eve of the Indian minister’s visit, participants shared valuable insights and suggestions concerning the bilateral relations between Nepal and India. Minister Saud conveyed that the discussions encompassed a wide array of topics related to the strengthening of ties between the two neighboring nations.

The consensus among the former officials was centered on fostering Nepal-India relations based on cordiality and mutual interests. Emphasizing the significance of the bond, they underscored the need to approach the relationship as an understanding built on friendship and shared objectives.

Among the key recommendations put forth during the meeting were strategies to address the widening trade deficit between the two countries. The former officials urged the government to explore avenues for promoting Nepal’s exports to India. Additionally, they highlighted the importance of improving cross-border infrastructure, concluding existing development projects, and addressing air route issues to enhance overall connectivity.

Prominent figures present at the consultation included former Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Bhekh Bahadur Thapa, along with former foreign secretaries Madhuraman Acharya, Arjun Thapa, Durga Bhattarai, Bharat Poudel, and former ambassador Durgeshman Singh.

Minister Narayan Prakash Saud shared that these consultations aim to pave the way for a more constructive and collaborative approach to the bilateral talks expected during the Indian External Affairs Minister’s two-day official visit to Nepal, set to commence on Thursday. The outcomes of these discussions are anticipated to play a crucial role in shaping the agenda and priorities during the upcoming diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
