Foreign Minister Shrestha Returns Home After China Visit

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha has returned home after a official visit to China.

During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha engaged in high-level talks with Chinese political leaders in Beijing, including meetings with Wang Huning, Chairperson of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Discussions centered on various aspects of bilateral relations between Nepal and China.

Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha also met with Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the Communist Party of China’s Foreign Department, focusing on strengthening ties between the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the Communist Party of China.

Addressing a pre-investment conference at the Nepali Embassy in Beijing, Shrestha invited Chinese investors to explore investment opportunities in Nepal.

In his visit to Chongqing Municipality, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha held discussions with Secretary of the Communist Party of China Zhejiang Committee Yuan Jiajun, emphasizing mutual economic prosperity between Nepal and China.

Further, Shrestha met with Wang Junzheng, party secretary of China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, and urged resolution of issues faced by people in the Nepal-China border area.

During his visit to Lhasa, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha directed the Consulate General of Nepal to prioritize economic diplomacy. He also led a delegation to the Kailash Mansarovar area in Tibet.

Additionally, Shrestha met with Sichuan People’s Government Governor Huang Xiaoxiang, advocating for increased Chinese investment in Nepal.

Shrestha’s visit was commenced on March 25 at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
