Former Home Minister’s Son Remanded in Fake Bhutanese Refugee Scam
Prateek Thapa, the son of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, has been placed in custody pending investigation regarding his involvement in a fraudulent scheme concerning Bhutanese refugees. According to sources within the District Police Range Kathmandu, the Kathmandu District Court issued this directive on Tuesday, marking a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings.
Thapa’s arrest came following a diligent pursuit by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) team, who apprehended him on June 28 in Kapan. Prior to his arrest, Thapa had been evading authorities subsequent to the issuance of an arrest warrant related to his alleged participation in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam.
Authorities conducting the investigation have revealed that Thapa allegedly operated as a facilitator within the scheme. His purported role involved soliciting funds from victims under the pretense of arranging their migration abroad disguised as Bhutanese refugees.
