Former Kathmandu Mayor PL Singh Passes Away at 87
Former Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and veteran Nepali Congress leader PL Singh passed away today at the age of 87. Singh, who had been battling a stomach-related ailment, breathed his last while undergoing treatment, according to family sources.
Singh’s body will be kept at his residence in Chakisibari, Kathmandu, until 11:00 AM today, following which it will be taken to the Nepali Congress central office in Sanepa for two hours for public tributes. His final rites are scheduled to be performed later today.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has announced a mourning holiday to honor the late mayor’s contributions. According to KMC Assistant Spokesperson Dhruba Kumar Kafle, all non-essential services at the KMC central office and ward offices will remain closed today.
Singh is remembered for his instrumental role in declaring Kathmandu a metropolitan city in 2052 BS. His tenure as mayor and his leadership within the Nepali Congress party left a significant impact on the city’s governance and development.
Singh’s passing marks the end of an era for Kathmandu’s political and administrative history.
