Former King Gyanendra Unveils Prithvi Narayan Shah Statue in Birtamode
Former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev unveiled a full-size statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah at the Eastern Empire College of Hotel Management’s courtyard in Birtamode today, marking a significant event in the region.
The former king received a grand welcome from monarchists in Birtamode, with enthusiastic supporters raising slogans calling for the return of monarchy to “save the nation.” The atmosphere was charged with excitement as the former king, amidst slogans, made his way to the venue of the program.
A spectacular motorcycle rally, boasting thousands of participants, escorted the former king, covering a distance of 12 kilometers and culminating in Birtamode. Upon reaching Bhatbhateni, Shah embarked on a 45-minute walk, greeted by a grand welcome organized by the RPP, with a public demonstration involving huge crowd in Birtamode.
RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden, a prominent monarchist leader, played an active role in welcoming the former king during his visit to Jhapa. Lingden had been present in the region for several days, demonstrating the widespread support for the monarchy.
Former King Gyanendra Shah, who arrived in Jhapa the previous day, stayed at Mechi Crown, a prominent five-star hotel in Itabhatta, Mechinagar. The hotel is owned by Balaram Sapkota, known as ‘Bale,’ who has close ties to CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli, adding an interesting political dimension to the visit.
The unveiling of the statue and the enthusiastic reception by monarchists highlight the continued relevance and support for the monarchy in certain circles, with the former king’s visit becoming a significant event in the local political landscape.
