The District Court of Rautahat sentenced former Minister Mohammad Aftab Alam to life imprisonment in relation to the Rajapur bomb incident of 2008. Justice Matrika Prasad Acharya, presiding over the case, found Alam guilty on multiple charges, including murder.
The District Attorney’s Office had filed the case against Alam on November 4, advocating for life sentences on three separate counts. According to the prosecution, Alam was involved in the production of explosives that led to a deadly explosion at a brick kiln.
Alam has maintained his innocence throughout the trial, denying any involvement in the explosion. Despite his pleas, the court convicted him, along with ten others, who are accused of disposing of the injured by burning them, to conceal the evidence of the explosion. An additional individual was charged with aiding in the crime.
The tragic incident, dating back to April 9, 2008, resulted from an accidental explosion while bombs were allegedly being constructed under Alam’s instruction. The blast caused severe injuries to several of Alam’s associates and resulted in the deaths of seven people.
