Former-national football player Shah honored in home district Banke

Former-national football player Bibek Jung Shah, who is also a Member of the British Empire, was recently honored by the Banke District Football Association in his home district of Banke. The event took place on Friday and was attended by several dignitaries, including central member of All Nepal Football Association Bhojraj Shahi, General Secretary of Banke District Football Association Kamal Khatri, football coach Sanu Tamang, Rabindra Shrestha, and others.

Shah began his football career in Nepalgunj and went on to play professional football for Nepal U-16 football team, Nepalgunj-11 team, and various other clubs. Currently, he serves as a Captain in the British Army. Shah’s contributions to Nepalese football include winning the state-level football tournament in Bahraich, India, for Nepalgunj-11 by scoring a decisive goal, as well as helping his team reach the quarter-finals of the birthday cup in 2001 after defeating Jawalakhel Football Club. Shah’s success in football has brought great pride and prestige to his country and district.

ANFA central member Bhojraj Shahi praised Shah for his contribution to the football history of the Banke district. He said, “Bibek is an exemplary player in the football history of the Banke district. Even after going to UK, he has achieved success that made his country and district proud. A player achieving success at this level is a matter of pride for the football family.”

During the event, Banke District Football Association officials and Shah discussed plans for developing football in the region. Shah expressed his happiness at meeting the officials of the football association and thanked them for the honor. He pledged his support for the development of football, especially for encouraging new kids to play the sport. The Banke District Football Association is preparing to conduct the 4th Nepalgunj Gold Cup and grassroots football training program for children, and Shah has promised to help with these initiatives.
