Foundation Stone Laid for India-Assisted School Building in Inaruwa

The foundation stone for a new school building at Shree Tribhuvan Secondary School in Inaruwa Municipality, Sunsari, has been laid, marking the beginning of a significant infrastructure project supported by the Government of India.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday, was jointly officiated by Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Member of Parliament for Sunsari Constituency 4, Prasanna Shrivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, and Kedar Bhandari, Mayor of Inaruwa Municipality. The event was attended by political representatives, government officials, social workers, teachers, students, and parents.

The new two-storey school building, to be constructed at a cost of NPR 24.83 crore, is being funded under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation initiative as part of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP). Inaruwa Municipality will oversee the project’s implementation.

Established in 1958, Shree Tribhuvan Secondary School currently educates students from nursery to grade 12, with an enrollment of approximately 750 students, 55 percent of whom are girls. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to enhance the quality of education and create a more conducive learning environment for students.

Deputy Chief of Mission Prasanna Shrivastava highlighted India’s longstanding commitment to Nepal’s development, noting that since 2003, India has undertaken 563 high-impact community projects across Nepal, including 91 in Koshi Province. Additionally, India has donated 1,009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various hospitals, health posts, and educational institutions, with Koshi Province receiving 146 ambulances and 48 school buses.

During the event, local leaders and stakeholders expressed gratitude for India’s continued development assistance and emphasized the project’s role in strengthening Nepal’s education sector. They acknowledged the initiative as a vital contribution to fostering academic excellence and improving educational infrastructure in the eastern region.

The Embassy of India reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Government of Nepal in infrastructure development and community upliftment, reinforcing the deep-rooted ties between the two neighboring nations.
