Foundation Stone Laid for New School Building at Shree Janata Secondary School, Saptari

The foundation stone for the construction of a new school building at Shree Janata Secondary School in Surunga Municipality, Saptari District, was laid today. The ceremony was jointly led by Nepal’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Teju Lal Chaudhary, Mayor of Surunga Municipality, Gita Chaudhary, and Garima Nautiyal, Second Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The event was attended by political representatives, government officials, educators, students, and their parents.
The new school building is being constructed with a financial grant of NPR 27.60 million from the Government of India under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ initiative. The project, classified as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), is being implemented through Surunga Municipality and aims to enhance educational infrastructure in the region.
Shree Janata Secondary School, established in 1951, currently serves around 600 students from nursery to grade 12, with girls making up 60% of the student body. The new triple-story building and allied facilities are expected to create a more conducive learning environment and contribute to the overall development of the education sector in the district.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mayor of Surunga Municipality, and the Chairperson of the School Management Committee expressed their gratitude to the Government of India for its continued support. They emphasized that the upgraded infrastructure would play a pivotal role in improving educational access and quality for the students of Saptari.
Since 2003, the Government of India has supported over 563 HICDPs in Nepal, completing 495 projects across various sectors. In Madhesh Province alone, 82 projects have been undertaken, including nine in Saptari. Additionally, India has gifted 1,009 ambulances and 300 school buses to healthcare institutions and schools across Nepal, including 24 ambulances and two school buses specifically for Saptari.
The implementation of HICDPs reflects the enduring partnership between India and Nepal, fostering growth and development through infrastructure projects in priority sectors. As close neighbors, the two nations continue to collaborate across multiple sectors to strengthen bilateral ties and uplift communities.
