Gagan Thapa Pushes for Decrease in Central and Provincial Members

Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has advocated for a reduction in the number of members in both the federal government and provincial assemblies. Speaking at a Nepali Congress event today, he emphasized that the current resources and infrastructure of the country cannot sustain the existing size of Parliament and Provincial Assemblies.

Thapa proposed amending the constitution to decrease the number of parliamentarians at the central and provincial levels. He specifically suggested limiting the federal government to only 10 to 12 ministers, and similarly reducing the number of ministers in the provinces.

Furthermore, Thapa criticized the electoral system of the provinces, pointing out that it has led to disputes that require court intervention in some regions. He stressed the need for reform in the provincial electoral systems to address these issues effectively.
