Gagan Thapa Urges PM Dahal to Step Down

Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to step down, citing the necessity to pave the way forward following his government’s minority status.

Speaking to reporters at Biratnagar Airport on Thursday, Thapa emphasized that while the Prime Minister retains the constitutional right to seek a vote of confidence, resigning would be the appropriate action after losing majority support.

Thapa underscored the urgency of amending the constitution to effectively implement federalism, ensure inclusive representation, and establish proportional governance, goals that have been sought over the past seven years.

Additionally, Thapa announced a new alliance between the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML aimed at bolstering the Federal Democratic Republic’s Constitution through further amendments and enhancements.

The NC General Secretary asserted that despite forming a coalition with the UML, Prime Minister Dahal’s administration faltered due to its instability and inability to secure lasting governance.

Highlighting the numerical limitations of both the Nepali Congress and the UML to independently amend the Constitution, Thapa proposed the formation of a national consensus government involving other political parties to achieve broader support and stability.
