The vibrant spirit of Gaura Parva came alive in Kathmandu Valley as residents hailing from Sudurpaschim, the far-western region of Nepal, gathered today for a special celebration held at Tundikhel.
Gaura Parva, a Hindu festival dedicated to goddess Parvati and her divine union with Lord Shiva, witnessed an enchanting display of Deuda songs and dances – the festival’s main attractions. The event is not only a source of joy but also a conduit for prosperity, believed to extend blessings to women’s spouses and their families.
The festivities were graced by a significant turnout of attendees from both the Far West and the Midwest regions of Nepal, showcasing the festival’s unifying power. The event further highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces through artistic performances and traditional dances.
Distinguished figures, including Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ former Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, UML leader Bhim Rawal, and other prominent party leaders, added to the event’s grandeur by their presence.
Gaura Parva holds a special place not only for its joyful celebrations but also as a symbol of identity for the far-western region. While women take center stage by observing fasts, offering prayers, and actively participating in the festivities, men also contribute their energy through engaging in the dynamic Deuda dance and songs.
