Global IME Bank Partners with ICICI Bank Canada to Ease Banking for Nepali Immigrants
Global IME Bank Limited and ICICI Bank Canada have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at simplifying banking services for Nepali immigrants heading to Canada. The MOU, signed in Kathmandu on Friday, seeks to support Nepali newcomers, including permanent residents, work permit holders, and students, through ICICI Bank Canada’s ‘Hello Canada’ programme.
This partnership will offer comprehensive digital banking solutions, allowing Global IME Bank clients to set up essential Canadian banking services before even arriving in Canada. The ‘Hello Canada’ programme provides Nepali newcomers the ability to open Canadian bank accounts online, transfer funds, pay bills, issue cheques, and make term deposits.
Speaking about the collaboration, Global IME Bank’s CEO, Surendra Raj Regmi, emphasized the importance of this partnership for Nepali students and migrants. “Canada is a global hub for education, employment, and migration. This partnership offers a critical platform to streamline banking services for Nepali students and migrants, easing their financial integration upon arrival,” he said. The agreement, Regmi added, marks a significant milestone in strengthening financial ties between Nepal and the global banking community.
ICICI Bank Canada’s Business Head, Himadar Madddipatla, also expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting Canada’s growing status as a preferred destination for international students and newcomers. “We are excited to support Global IME Bank’s clients with 360-degree banking solutions, ensuring students and newcomers can easily access a wide range of products and services before and after their arrival in Canada,” said Madddipatla.
This strategic collaboration further strengthens cross-border remittance services, creating greater awareness and accessibility to financial products between Nepal and Canada.
