Global Tender Announced for Jagadulla Hydropower Project
A global tender has been issued for the selection of contractors for the physical construction of the Jagadulla Hydropower Project, which aims to support the “illuminating Karnali” initiative.
Sanjaya Sapkota, Chief Executive Officer of Jagadulla Hydropower Company, announced that the company has solicited global tenders for the main construction work, as well as civil and mechanical works, of the project. The tender notice was published on June 2, and interested parties have until August 1, 2024, to apply.
The decision to call for a global tender follows the completion of financial management for the project. A bilateral loan agreement was signed in the presence of Minister for Energy, Water Resource, and Irrigation, Shakti Bahadur Basnet. The project has secured funding from a consortium of banks and financial institutions, led by Nabil Bank, which is investing Rs 4.4 billion. Other investors include Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company Limited, Citizen Investment Trust, Laxmi Sunrise, and Everest Bank.
“We have taken ahead crucial works on time. It has opened up avenues for completing the project in the stipulated time,” stated CEO Sapkota.
Located in the Dolpa district, the Jagadulla Hydropower Project has a total production capacity of 106 MW. The electricity generated will be connected to the Bafikot sub-station, which is being constructed by the Nepal Electricity Authority. This project is a significant step towards enhancing the energy infrastructure and supporting the overall development of the Karnali region.
