Government Announces Relief and Suspensions Following Balkumari Incident
In the aftermath of the tragic incident at Balkumari in Lalitpur on Friday afternoon, the government has taken several measures, including announcing relief for the families of the deceased and suspending key officials involved. The decisions were made during a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar, on Saturday afternoon.
At the meeting, it was decided to provide a relief fund of 10 lakhs each to the families of the two youths who lost their lives in the incident. “It has been decided to give 10 lakhs to each family of the deceased youth,” stated one of the ministers who participated in the meeting.
The meeting also led to the suspension of key officials involved in the incident. DSP Umesh Lamsal of Satdobato and PSO Bodhraj Danuwar, who was responsible for the security of Physical Infrastructure Minister Prakash Jwala, were among those suspended. Additionally, the head of the EPS Korea branch, Gurudatta Subedi, was also suspended.
Furthermore, the government has decided to bear the expenses for the treatment of those injured in the incident. Government Spokesperson and Minister of Information, Communication, and Technology, Rekha Sharma, conveyed the government’s condolences to the families and paid homage to the deceased.
The clash with the police in Balkumari resulted in the deaths of 23-year-old Birendra Bahadur Shah from Chowrapati Rural Municipality-1 of Achham and 23-year-old Sujan Rawat from Mahavu Rural Municipality-6 of Dailekh. The incident has prompted swift government action to address the immediate aftermath and provide support to the affected families.
