Government decision to remove difficulties on extending term of transitional justice mechanisms

The government has decided to issue an order to unlock difficulties to extend the tenure of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Investigation on the Enforced Disappeared Persons until July 17, 2023.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Friday took this decision, according to the Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki.

The meeting also approved the participation of Auditor General Tankamani Sharma Dangal in an auditing related programme to be held in Manila, Philippines.

Likewise, the cabinet formed a talk team under the Chief of the International Economic Assistance Coordination Division of the Ministry of Finance to hold a dialogue to give a final touch to the document on loan assistance of $200 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for school education sector programme, while giving authority to the team.

Furthermore, the minimum FDI limit to Nepal is fixed at Rs 20 million. Minister Karki said that ban on imports of different four lavish goods effective till 14 October is extended up to mid-December.

The government has also extended the tenure of Environment, Compensation Distribution, Resettlement and Rehabilitation Unit of the Budhi Gandaki Project by one year.

Minister Karki further informed that the Cabinet decided to approve and implement the agreement the government had with Prof Dr Govinda KC on September 24. Similarly, the government will allow 37 foreign nationals from different countries to leave Nepal within three months by writing off passport fee, delay fee and fine.

As per the government decision, the local levels of Jumla, Humla, Mugu and Kalikot districts of Karnali Province hit hard by the floods and landslides would be declared disaster hit zone in a bid to minimize future loss and damage. The works under disaster risk minimization and management would be made more effective, he added.

The Buddhabhumi Municipality of Kapilvastu will be provided one bighas of land at then Bakdriya-9 (a) in the district for 30 years setting condition for the construction of a 15-bed hospital.

The concept note on draft of amending and integrating laws on drug would be approved principally.

The government also decided on promotion of some army officials. The postage stamps and postal stationeries which were printed in different times but not brought to use will be written off as per Financial Work Procedure and Fiscal Liability Regulation.

The government has extended the tenure of Brigadier General of Nepali Army Bijaya Thapa until September 18, 2023. (RSS)
