‘Government Won’t Back Down on Bansbari Land Issue’
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the Bansbari land encroachment case, involving a 10-ropani plot formerly owned by the Bansbari Shoe Factory. Speaking before the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the federal parliament, Shrestha emphasized that the government would not retreat from its duty in this matter.
Highlighting the separation of powers within the state, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha underscored the government’s role as the executive organ, asserting its responsibility in ensuring justice prevails. He stated, “The executive organ of the state is the government. Other organs of the state are progressing in accordance with the principle of decentralization of power.” His comments aimed to reassure the public of the government’s unwavering stance in upholding the rule of law.
Addressing concerns raised by parliamentarians, including Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, regarding the government’s handling of corruption cases, Shrestha reiterated the government’s firm stance against corruption and its commitment to holding wrongdoers accountable.
Responding to queries about recent court decisions, including the denial of bail to individuals such as Arun Chaudhary, Shrestha emphasized his respect for the judicial process while acknowledging the questions raised about its efficacy. He stated, “The decision not to release individuals like Arun Chaudhary on bail was made by the court. However, it raised some questions about the judicial process.”
