Governor for Nepal Rastra Bank to Be Appointed Soon: Minister Gurung

Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has announced that the government will soon appoint a new governor for Nepal Rastra Bank.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry on Today, Minister Gurung acknowledged delays in the appointment, citing the need for a capable individual who can spearhead reforms in the country’s economic landscape. He confirmed that an agreement has been reached among the ruling coalition regarding the appointment.

“Given the current state of the economy, it is natural for different parties to have their interests in selecting a governor. However, a consensus was reached yesterday between Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on the matter,” Gurung said.

He further added that a meeting of the ruling coalition’s political mechanism is underway to finalize the decision, which will be guided by collective policy directions. “The issue will be resolved soon. The central bank is currently being overseen by a caretaker, but we are committed to appointing a full-time governor with the authority to act,” he said.

Minister Gurung also addressed the ongoing concerns of educators, stating that the government is attentive to their demands and has recommended the initiation of a budget session to address their issues.
