The High Commission of India in Dhaka, along with the Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna, is actively assisting Indian nationals returning home following recent developments in Bangladesh. Coordinating with local authorities, the High Commission and Assistant High Commissions are ensuring safe travel to border crossing points along the India-Bangladesh International Border. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is also liaising with civil aviation, immigration, land ports, and Border Security Force (BSF) authorities to facilitate a smooth passage for Indian citizens.
As of now, 778 Indian students have returned to India through various land ports. Additionally, around 200 students have flown back home via regular flight services from Dhaka and Chittagong airports. The High Commission of India in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions are in regular contact with over 4,000 students remaining in various universities in Bangladesh, providing necessary assistance.
Importantly, students from Nepal and Bhutan have also been assisted in crossing into India upon request.
The High Commission and Assistant High Commissions maintain regular communication with Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals and students. Security escorts have been arranged where necessary for their travel by road during repatriation through select land ports. The High Commission in Dhaka is also coordinating with Bangladeshi civil aviation authorities and commercial airlines to ensure uninterrupted flight services to India from Dhaka and Chittagong, which can be used by nationals returning home.
The High Commission of India in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions in Bangladesh are available to provide any assistance required by Indian nationals.
