High Court Acquits Sandeep Lamichhane of Rape Charges
The Patan High Court has exonerated Sandeep Lamichhane, the former captain of the Nepal national cricket team, of all charges related to a rape case. A joint bench of judges Sudarsan Dev Bhatta and Anju Dhakal issued the verdict, overturning the earlier decision of the Kathmandu District Court.
Lamichhane, who had vehemently proclaimed his innocence throughout the legal proceedings, was sentenced to eight years in prison by the district court. However, his appeal to the high court has now been successful, with the court finding him not guilty after a thorough review of the evidence and arguments presented.
This verdict marks a significant turn of events for Lamichhane, whose career was on hold due to the legal battle. With his innocence proven, Lamichhane’s supporters anticipate his swift return to the cricket field, potentially in time for the upcoming T20 World Cup, pending the lifting of his suspension by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).
