Hima Rural Municipality Declared First Literate Municipality in Jumla District
Hima Rural Municipality in Jumla has been declared a literate rural municipality, becoming the first of the district’s eight local levels to achieve this status. According to statistics, 95.72% of Hima’s population of 12,804 are literate, leaving only 4.28% illiterate. Among the literate, 55 have obtained master’s degrees and 155 hold graduate degrees. Additionally, 1,660 adults and 5,370 school-aged children are literate, according to Laxman Shahi, chairperson of Hima Rural Municipality.
The achievement is credited to significant investments in education by Hima RM. “This is the result of our continuous focus on education,” said Bijaya Budha, Karnali Province’s Minister of Water Resources and Energy Development. Hima allocates 33% of its budget to education annually, according to Chief Administrative Officer Rana Bahadur Budha.
Chief of the District Coordination Committee in Jumla, Gaurinanda Acharya, praised Hima’s accomplishment, calling it a major milestone for the region.
