Hindi is bridge for deepening Nepal-India ties at people’s level: DPM Shrestha

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has underlined the need of promoting the Hindi language and literature as they have deepened the ties between Nepal and India at the people’s level.

Addressing a two-day seminar on ‘Social Changes of Nepal and India in Global Context’ organized by Tribhuvan University, the Central Department of Hindi, today, DPM and Foreign Affairs Minister Shrestha opined that the day has come in which voice from the South Asia, including Nepal and India, would carry a special meaning in the world since the sub-region occupies a significant portion of the global population.

He stated that the study and teaching of Hindi language has further deepened the relations between Nepal and India, which are related not only geographically and economically, but also connected culturally and in terms of family relations.

Lawmaker Amaresh Kumar Singh said that art, language and literature are not confined within the boundaries of a country. He added that although the boundaries are created due to political and geographical reasons, language and literature contributed to taking any language to world-wide level.

Head of TU, Department of Hindi, Sanjita Barma, said that although there is the possibility of the Department getting many students who want to study Hindi language and literature, they are deprived of this facility due to the requirement that one should have taken Hindi course in the Bachelors Level to get admission in the Masters Level. She complained that the Department lacks own building and minimum infrastructures so far.

On the occasion, DPM Shrestha launched nearly half a dozen books in Hindi.
