HoR Meeting Halted Due to UML, Next Session on July 31
The House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday was adjourned due to the obstruction caused by the main opposition party, CPN-UML. The UML lawmakers initiated a protest as soon as the HoR meeting commenced. Despite allowing the meeting to proceed until lawmakers finished discussing the gold smuggling scam, they disrupted proceedings when Speaker Devraj Ghimire attempted to start the zero hour.
UML lawmakers surrounded the rostrum, voicing slogans against the government and demanding action against those responsible for the smuggling case. Specifically, they called for the resignation of Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha and Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, holding them accountable for the alleged failure to apprehend the main culprit behind the incident.
As a result of the disruption caused by UML MPs, Speaker Ghimire adjourned the meeting until Monday, July 31 at 1 pm. Further discussions on critical matters in the House of Representatives will be postponed until then.
