Implementation of journalist code of conduct stressed
Chairperson of Press Council Nepal, Bal Krishna Basnet has laid emphasis on the need of implementing journalist code of conduct to make online news balance and credible.
In its 22nd slots of orientation here today, chair Basnet suggested owners and editors of registered online media to disseminate credible, balance and investigative news content.
He said, “Several online media outlets have failed to prove themselves as credible media. Number of online media has proliferated but resource limitation and ineffective management remained constraint of their growth.
Chair Basnet mentioned that orientation programme related to journalist code of conduct and directives was necessary with the growing trend of running online media by those who have not studied journalism has increased.
Similarly, journalist Suresh Prasad Acharya shared that running online media without journalism experience has created challenges in journalism field.
Acharya urged not to operate online media in lure of access to mass media.
The orientation programme has been in place since 25 March 2022. As many as 1,040 journalists associated with different 671 online media outlets had participated in the orientation during the period.
