Income Tax department conducts survey at BBC offices
The Income Tax Department officials on Tuesday (February 14, 2023) conducted a survey operation at BBC’s offices in Delhi and Mumbai.
According to Indian media, Indian Income Tax Department officials raided two BBC offices simultaneously.
BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) is the state sponsored media of the United Kingdom. Some reports suggest the phones of the employees are seized as well.
This development comes amid a massive controversy over the recent BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the 2002 Gujarat riots.
It is reportedly said that the department is looking at documents related to the business operations of the company and those related to its Indian arm.
As part of a survey, the Income Tax Department only covers the business premises of a company and does not raid residences and other locations of its promoters or directors.
