India Gifts 15 Electric Vehicles to Nepal for ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’

In a gesture underscoring its enduring friendship and development partnership with Nepal, the Government of India today gifted 15 electric vehicles to the Government of Nepal to support the organization of the inaugural edition of the ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’.

The event, set to take place in Kathmandu from 16–18 May 2025, will focus on the theme Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity.”

The electric vehicles were handed over by the Ambassador of India to Nepal,  Naveen Srivastava, to Nepal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, during a formal ceremony in Kathmandu.

The vehicles, provided at the request of the Government of Nepal, are intended to augment logistical arrangements and facilitate the movement of delegates and officials during the high-level dialogue.

Ambassador Srivastava highlighted that the provision of electric vehicles aligns with the environmental focus of the Sambaad and recalled similar support India had extended during Nepal’s 2022 federal and provincial elections. “These vehicles will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth organization of the Sambaad,” he said, reiterating India’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation for mutual development.

In her remarks, Dr. Deuba expressed gratitude for India’s timely assistance and acknowledged the long-standing partnership between the two countries. She noted India’s consistent role as one of Nepal’s largest and most trusted development partners.

The ‘Sagarmatha Sambaad’, named after Mount Everest (Sagarmatha in Nepali), is envisioned as a premier global dialogue platform initiated by Nepal to address pressing issues concerning climate change and the future of humanity, particularly through the lens of mountainous and vulnerable regions.

India and Nepal share a multi-faceted relationship rooted in historical, cultural, and socio-economic ties. Today’s gesture marks yet another step in deepening people-to-people linkages and promoting regional cooperation on global challenges.
