India Hands Over Nursing Campus and Hostel Buildings to Kathmandu Under HICDP

The campus and hostel buildings of Sushma Koirala Memorial Nursing Campus in Kathmandu, constructed with financial assistance from the Government of India under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation,’ were formally handed over today.
The project, completed at a cost of NPR 29.24 million, was inaugurated jointly by Mr. Santosh Budhathoki, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Kathmandu, and Shri Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The event was attended by political representatives, government officials, and social workers.
The Indian grant funded the construction of a two-story classroom block, a two-story hostel block, and associated facilities. The project, designated as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), was implemented through the District Coordination Committee, Kathmandu.
Speaking at the event, representatives from the District Coordination Committee, Shankharapur Municipality, and the Sushma Koirala Memorial Nursing Campus expressed their gratitude to the Government of India for its continued developmental support. They highlighted the importance of the new infrastructure in enhancing nursing education, creating an improved learning environment, and advancing the education sector in the region.
Established in 2000 and affiliated with the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), the Sushma Koirala Memorial Nursing Campus offers a three-year Proficiency Certificate Level course in Nursing, producing 120 trained nurses annually.
India and Nepal share a long history of close cooperation across various sectors. The implementation of HICDPs like this project underscores India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s development efforts, particularly in priority sectors like education and infrastructure.
