Indian Ambassador and Home Minister Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Border Security
Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, held a crucial meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane today. The discussions centered around intensifying the deep-rooted ties between India and Nepal, leveraging historical bonds and geographical proximity.
Both sides underscored the importance of effective coordination in curbing cross-border crime, emphasizing that robust security mechanisms play a pivotal role, even with open borders. Ambassador Srivastava emphasized the necessity for enhanced policy frameworks to address minor border crimes and combat human trafficking effectively.
Highlighting India’s commitment to Nepal’s development, Ambassador Srivastava announced India’s readiness to extend grants and aid for the reconstruction of earthquake-affected regions, particularly Jajarkot and Rukum West. Additionally, India pledged support to expedite the construction of the National Police Academy and provide specialized training for law enforcement personnel.
In response, Minister of Home Affairs reiterated Nepal’s dedication to bolstering cooperation with India, promising swift deliberation on proposed agreements and facilitating the utilization of grants for reconstruction projects in Jajarkot and Rukum West.
A key focus of the discussions was the need to enhance pesticide testing mechanisms for fruits and vegetables in border areas. Minister Lamichhane stressed the importance of upgrading existing testing facilities to ensure reliability and regularity.
Ambassador Srivastava reiterated India’s commitment to Nepal’s security, emphasizing that a safe Nepal is essential for a secure India. He pledged India’s support in providing resources and tools to strengthen Nepal’s security apparatus and counter terrorism effectively.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across various sectors and enhancing mutual security interests.
