Indian Army Chief Visits Nepal to Receive Honorary General Title
General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Indian Army, arrived in Kathmandu today for a five-day official visit at the invitation of General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of Army Staff of the Nepali Army. Accompanied by a five-member delegation, including Mrs. Sunita Dwivedi, Chairperson of the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) of the Indian Army, General Dwivedi was warmly welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport by Major General Prem Dhoj Adhikari, Head of the Department of Military Operations, and his wife.
The highlight of the visit will be the conferment of the rank of Honorary General of the Nepali Army upon General Dwivedi by Nepal’s President, Ram Chandra Poudel. The ceremony, scheduled for November 21, continues a long-standing tradition symbolizing the close and unique bond between the two armies.
General Dwivedi also interacted with the Indian Ambassador to Nepal to discuss bilateral relations between the two neighboring nations. The Nepali Army emphasized that such high-level exchanges reinforce the historical ties and mutual understanding between the two armed forces.
This visit underscores the significance of military diplomacy and reflects the enduring friendship between India and Nepal.
