Indian Army Chief Visits Pokhara, Honors Gorkha Veterans and Gallantry Awardees

Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi, visited Pokhara on Saturday, where he addressed a large gathering of Nepal Domiciled Gorkha ex-servicemen at the Pension Paying Office (PPO) Pokhara.

In a grand event held on the sprawling lawns of the PPO, General Dwivedi, accompanied by Mrs. Sunita Dwivedi, President of the Indian Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), interacted with the gathering. He felicitated gallantry awardees and Veer Naris (widows of soldiers who died in service) present at the event, expressing deep appreciation for the unwavering bravery and dedication of Gorkha soldiers.

“The courage and commitment of Gorkha soldiers have been unparalleled, and their sacrifices remain etched in the history of our armed forces,” said General Dwivedi, saluting their valor and contributions to the Indian Army.

Later in the day, General Dwivedi visited the Western Division Headquarters of the Nepali Army in Pokhara, where he engaged in discussions with the General Officer Commanding, Major General Shantosh Ballave Poudyal, and his staff officers.

The visit underscores the enduring bond between the Indian Army and the Gorkha community, as well as the close military cooperation between India and Nepal.
