International Day of Happiness Celebrated Today

The International Day of Happiness is being observed today worldwide with various programs aimed at highlighting the significance of happiness and well-being in people’s lives.

The United Nations General Assembly officially declared March 20 as the International Day of Happiness on July 12, 2012. This day serves as a reminder for people across the globe to prioritize happiness and recognize its importance in fostering a balanced and meaningful life.

The initiative to establish this day was led by Bhutan, a nation that has long valued Gross National Happiness (GNH) over Gross National Income (GNI) since the early 1970s. Bhutan has also embraced national happiness as a fundamental policy goal, influencing the global conversation on well-being and quality of life.

In addition to the International Day of Happiness, French Language Day is also being celebrated today. The United Nations marks six language days each year, recognizing French, Arabic, Chinese, English, Russian, and Spanish to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity.

French Language Day has been celebrated on March 20 since 1970, symbolizing the establishment of the Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation. The day highlights the cultural significance and global reach of the French language.

Both events aim to promote understanding, connection, and appreciation across different cultures and communities worldwide.
