Investment Board Nepal Approves Over Rs 140 Billion for Hydropower Projects
The Investment Board Nepal (IBN) has approved significant investments in several hydropower projects, totaling over Rs 140 billion, during its 60th meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Approved Projects
Budigandaki Hydropower Project:
Capacity: 341 megawatts
Investment: Rs 70 billion
Jagadulla Semi-Reservoir Hydropower Project:
Capacity: 106 megawatts
Investment: Rs 23.59 billion
Chainpur Seti Project:
Capacity: 210 megawatts
Investment: Rs 47.54 billion
The meeting also decided to extend the term for the 327-megawatt Upper Marsyangdi Project and Samrat Company Pvt. Ltd.
Capacity Increase for West Seti Project
The Board approved a proposal to increase the capacity of the 750-megawatt West Seti Project to 800 megawatts, aiming to maximize energy production and efficiency.
Prime Minister’s Directives
Prime Minister Oli emphasized the need for coordination among relevant bodies to foster an environment conducive to investment. He also informed attendees about the draft strategic and professional plan of the Board, which is currently under discussion with stakeholders.
The decisions are expected to accelerate Nepal’s hydropower development and attract further investment in the energy sector, aligning with the country’s long-term energy strategy.
