IPPAN Urges Prime Minister Oli to Incorporate Private Sector Concerns in Energy Laws and Policies
The Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to include private sector concerns in energy sector laws and policies, emphasizing the importance of the energy sector as a foundation for the country’s prosperity.
A delegation led by IPPAN President Ganesh Karki visited the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar today, urging the swift passage of the Electricity Bill, 2080, which is currently under consideration in Parliament. The delegation stressed the need to incorporate private sector interests in the bill.
The IPPAN delegation expressed concerns that the current provisions in the proposed bill could hinder private sector involvement and potentially cancel projects with a combined capacity of around 30,000 MW. They also urged the government to expedite power purchase agreements for 13,000 MW capacity projects that are currently in the pipeline.
The delegation highlighted the critical role of the private sector in achieving the country’s energy goals and ensuring sustainable economic growth.
