Jaishankar’s Kathmandu Tweet: ‘Happy to be back in Nepal for my first visit of 2024’
Indian Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar touched down in Kathmandu on Thursday morning, marking his first visit of the year 2024. Currently engrossed in the seventh meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission, Jaishankar has expressed his delight on social media, sharing his enthusiasm for the upcoming diplomatic engagements in the Himalayan nation.
Taking to the social media platform X, Jaishankar tweeted, “Hello Kathmandu, I am very happy to come to Nepal as my first visit in 2024. I am excited for the various programs that will last for the next two days.”

The ongoing seventh meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission at Hotel Yak and Yeti on Darbarmarg is a significant diplomatic event, symbolizing the collaborative efforts between the two neighboring nations. Co-chaired by Foreign Minister NP Saud of Nepal and his Indian counterpart, S Jaishankar, the joint commission aims to strengthen bilateral ties and address key issues of mutual interest.
Before the commencement of the joint commission meeting, Minister Jaishankar held courtesy meetings with President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. These interactions underline the warm diplomatic relations between the leadership of India and Nepal.
The Foreign Minister’s busy itinerary also includes meetings with influential Nepali political figures. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba at 3:40 pm and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli at 4:30 pm, reinforcing diplomatic channels with Nepal’s political leadership.
In a gesture of cultural affinity, Jaishankar is slated to visit the revered Pashupatinath temple for worship at 8 am on Friday. This move underscores the enduring cultural and religious ties between the two nations.
The External Affairs Minister’s two-day visit highlights India’s commitment to fostering its relationship with Nepal. Minister Jaishankar is expected to depart for India at 12 noon on Friday, concluding a diplomatic mission aimed at enhancing cooperation and understanding between the two neighboring nations. The visit is anticipated to further solidify the longstanding bonds and mutual cooperation that exist between India and Nepal.
