Japanese Foreign Minister Meets PM Prachanda, Pledges Continued Economic Support to Nepal

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa met with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday in a significant one-day visit to Kathmandu, symbolizing the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Japan and Nepal.

The visit, initiated upon an invitation from Nepal’s Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, was held at Singh Durbar where discussions focused on enhancing mutual interests and further strengthening economic collaborations.

Dr. Rupak Sapkota, foreign advisor to PM Dahal, acknowledged the substantial support Japan has provided to Nepal, particularly in socio-economic and infrastructural sectors. Prime Minister Dahal expressed his gratitude towards Japan for its ongoing assistance and commitment to Nepal’s development.

Minister Kamikawa highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two nations and reiterated Japan’s dedication to supporting Nepal’s economic development objectives. During her visit, Minister Kamikawa also took the opportunity to explore Basantapur Durbar Square, marking her first official trip to Nepal since her appointment as Foreign Minister.

This visit not only reaffirms the strategic partnership but also marks Minister Kamikawa as the fourth Japanese Foreign Minister to visit Nepal since the establishment of diplomatic relations, underlining the importance of Nepal-Japan relations in the region.
