Kailash Sirohiya Released After 9-Day Detention
Kailash Sirohiya, the Chairman of Kantipur Media Group, has been released from custody after spending nine days under arrest. The prominent media figure was granted bail upon his appearance in court, following his arrest from his office by the police last Tuesday.
Sirohiya’s release comes after he was admitted to Medicity Hospital in Lalitpur, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. His health condition deteriorated during his detention, prompting his transfer to Kathmandu for urgent care via helicopter.
Initially transported to Janakpur upon his arrest, Sirohiya’s health issues became apparent during his detention, leading to his admission to Kavya Hospital and later Janakpur Provincial Hospital due to complications related to diabetes and hypertension.
The arrest warrant issued by the Dhanusha District Court, sanctioned by Judge Chitra Bahadur Gurung, stemmed from allegations of possessing duplicate citizenship certificates. The complaint, filed at the District Police Office, accused Sirohiya of holding citizenship credentials matching those of another individual, sparking legal and ethical concerns.
District Police Office, Dhanusha, citing Sirohiya’s health condition, released him from custody with the consent of the District Public Prosecutor’s Office, in accordance with Section 15 (1) of the Civil Criminal Procedure Code.
