Karnali Highway Reopens After Landslides Cleared
11th Aug 2024
The Karnali Highway, which had been obstructed by landslides triggered by torrential rains, has been reopened. The Surkhet-Jumla road section, which was blocked by landslides at Pili, Kalyankhola, and Birtamode in Kalikot, has been cleared and is now fully operational as of this morning.
Bir Bahadur GT, the Information Officer at the Jumla-based Road Division Office, confirmed that the highway is now open after the removal of landslide debris. Despite challenges in maintaining the highway due to limited budgetary resources, the road has been repaired using available means.
Local residents have voiced their concerns, demanding the immediate upgradation of the highway to prevent future disruptions and ensure safer travel conditions.
