Kathmandu Tops Global Air Pollution Charts Again
The capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, has once more been labeled as the most polluted city in the world, as per the latest air quality data recorded on Wednesday morning.
As of 9:00 am, the air quality index in Kathmandu reached the “very unhealthy” category, with PM2.5 levels alarmingly high at 181 micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m³). PM2.5 consists of tiny particles or droplets in the air that are two and a half microns or less in width, which are known to pose significant health risks, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
According to data from IQ AirVisual, a Swiss-based global air quality information provider, the concentration of PM2.5 in Kathmandu is now more than 22 times higher than the annual guideline value recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Residents are urged to minimize outdoor activities and use air filtration devices indoors to reduce exposure. The situation underscores the urgent need for comprehensive air quality management and pollution control measures in the city.
